2011 lloyd christmas: part one

Christmas eve with the Lloyds: a little christmas decor, the heads of Sue and Dennis Franklin behind a pile of gifts, when christmas cards arrive Joanne is excited to add them to her christmas card tree, some christmas present opening lloyd style (read the card out loud to the group, pass it around, if your gift is wearable, put it on immediately to model for the group), Daniel and Shawna with the Christmas tree in the background, Christmas dinner (note the festive tablecloth), a sleepy Emma, and the aftermath.

ps. our christmas card: if you didn't receive one, please contact us because we need your current address.

getting to seattle

home for the holidays: the saab parked and patiently waiting for our return under the poinsettia tree (thanks again Krista!), Joe in the backseat on the way to the airport, the most crowded we ever seen our favorite airport (Long Beach Airport) on the way to board the plane, southern california out the airplane window...see you again in a few weeks

a quiet thanksgiving

with our families spread out across the country and no money for travel, we opted for a quiet thanksgiving together this year. if the point was to be overstuffed, we certainly succeeded, even without the traditional turkey: appetizers, us eating our appetizers all gone, a bacon wrapped fig, half eaten, is really quite beautiful (unfortunately our recipe was not as amazing as our inspiration from Julia's thanksgiving last year), thanksgiving dinner: butternut squash soup, roasted cauliflower and polenta vegetable bake. overall, a quiet relaxing day full of napping, reading and netflix.

day in claremont

we went to claremont together on tuesday because tina's usual tuesday classes were cancelled this week. the first two images are of joe's paintings in the administration offices of CGU (a year long show curated by David Pagel of CGU students and staff), then joe in his studio, and finally an image lifted from the restaurant website where we had lunch, a place called the back abbey where they serve burgers and beer from around the world.

3rd anniversary

3 years. 3 pictures. 3 places.

lately

a few highlights of our life lately: Joe is leading a graduate discussion group at Claremont, by far the most popular of available groups, on the death of painting...heres the sign up sheet as evidence of his popularity, an image from tina's collaborative art exhibition called 'pataphor (you can see a video of the show on her blog here), a quick shot of Tina's work from the advancement show earlier in October, Joe's studio, we had the opportunity to see Lisa and Osha briefly, a few weeks back, when they were visiting Long Beach. This is Osha, a bit bored, in Tina's studio.

pasadena, echo park & silverlake day trip

a few of us from the fiber department decided to venture to pasadena to visit our friend emilyn to see her studio, an industrial rope supplier (yes, i have become a bit of a fiber nerd), the norton simon museum and whatever else crossed our path this past friday. we started out at frank r ferris co and he generously let us look around for what must have been an hour: me in my heels in the attic surrounded by boxes of rope of all varieties, some twine with a vintage tag, a view of of one of many rooms of rope, some incredible ironing boards that i was given (for free!!) leftover from a repair business that the owners father ran in the same space in the 1960's, next we headed to emilyn's studio were she is working on her mfa application to fibers for next fall..this is a quick shot of one wall of her studio, finally we did a drive through of echo park and silverlake, stopping for an amazing lunch at Forage (ate too fast to get pictures) then window shopping at the silverlake shops, ending up having tea and snacks at the Casbah Cafe (be aware the outdoor tables are at an extreme angle so you might want to bring your own something something to prop them up evenly enough to eat on) before heading to the Norton Simon Museum for their Pacific Standard Time show of LA printmaking.

good times, good food, another fun neighborhood i never knew existed. Thanks Emilyn and Krista!
