south carolina food

i enjoyed my first experience of the south this month as i visited my mom and her husband jim in charleston, south carolina. it was 10 days of humidity, the most beautiful trees and southern architecture and lots of good hearty eating. i'll be posting more of the trip including our excursion to savannah, Georgia, but first things first: the food post.

starting at the top: open faced crab melt in Georgetown from Rice Paddy Restaurant, the best tea i've ever tasted came from Hopsewee plantation where we ordered a full tea service which turned out to be trays and trays of lovely hor d'oeuvres like these (my favorite is the one on the bottom, a gingersnap with a curry paste dusted with almonds), lunch at Blu Restaurant on Folly Beach where you can walk right off the deck of the restaurant to the sandy beach..i had a chicken ceaser wrap and sweet potato fries, peaches at an open air farmers market in Charleston, another course from the Hopsewee plantation tea service, bo rounds from bojangles- a hashbrown type southern fastfoodstuff, one of my favorite meals of the trip was the shrimp and grits i had at Middleton Place Plantation Restaurant.
