update

its been so intense the past week i've had a hard time keeping up let alone somehow trying to find a way to fit all of our adventures into neat orderly sentences. we visited the hammer museum last weekend as part of our new plan of going to see a different LA art destination each week. the featured show was rarely seen paintings by eva hesse and sculptures by mark manders. also on view was some contemporary video art (which joe hated) and an interior space in which gravity appears to have been altered in a tilt-induced visual illusion by julian hoeber

friday is another fibers field trip where we head to, among many places, a show i've been wanting to see at the santa monica museum of art on alberto burri. joe has been officially invited to join us, but he says he'd rather paint instead. he has been busy reworking the paintings slowly adding and subtracting areas taking inspiration from his own photos of long beach architectural patterns and landscapes. rumor is he will be bringing home a few of the earlier paintings soon, which i am looking forward to living with.

yesterday I spent the day moving into my new studio space. i've been learning new fiber processes that could eventually prove to be relevant for future art making: felting, machine sewing, embroidery and acid dyes (which work on nylon). it looks like next semester i have been selected to be an "intern" in the dye class i'm taking now, so it should give me a taste of what teaching is like as well as give me a good review of the dye processes which we are going through so quickly this semester.
